This is an Island Readers and Writers (IRW) and Wendell Gilley Museum partner program. Bryan’s vibrantly colored collage and paper-cut illustrations adorned the pages of some 50 books, folktales and poetry collections by such acclaimed writers as Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni and Walter Dean Myers. Join us for an interactive story time with Lisa Herrington, Program Assistant for Island Readers and Writers (IRW), followed by Erika Rosso leading a collage activity, where participants will make their own beautiful birds!Īshley Bryan (1923–2022) was a beloved acclaimed author, painter, printmaker, illustrator, puppet maker and storyteller whose career spanned more than six decades.
